COSMOPHONE

Cosmophone installed card phones in 2004 mainly in the coastal towns of Larnaka, Limassol, Paphos and Agia Napa. Not much information is known about the issues, but it is certain that the first issue consisted of 10 000 pieces of each value. Information on subsequent issues are not known. The first three series appear with matt or gloss finish, whilst the 4fouth series seems to be a gloss finish.

There are many variations with regard to colour and the actual design of the cards. Colors may vary from blue to light mauve, and the design may seem to float on the card. Most noticeable is the bottom right corner where the western bulge of Australia may vary in size of up to 5mm

Apparently these cards are Greek issues
of the same company which were brought
to Cyprus to alleviate the shortage of cards
The necessary adjustments were made for
the telephones to accept these cards and it

2'nd Emergency issue €5 NOTES
Due to the shortage of cards, the company undertook to
replace the Pound sign with a Euro sign on the £5 Fifth
Definitive issue card using a red marker pen. The cards
were then again inserted into blister packs and sold
to retailers. Due to the fact that these cards can easily be
reproduced as the control number run of these cards
is unclear, one should be wary when being offered such a
piece, and should only consider if the card on offer is mint
in blister - and the blister should be totally sealed
